February Foragers

After our winter break, the Foraging Pigs were back in force with a good turnout for our February meeting on the last Thursday of the month. There were three rounds from the hat. In the absence of Liz, Will was on the gong.

Poetry ranged from the comic to the profound. Much was poignant and well-crafted. So much was relatable. Loss and grief featured highly and standout poems came from Mark, The Sound of the Shell, and Andrew, Why?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the weather of late, the proliferation of mud was on the menu - as were cows, trees, worms, maggots and flies. We also had a poem in the voice of a dog. The indignity of aging featured, plus some excellent metapoetry taking inspiration from other poets and exploring poetic form. We had some cover poems from Luke Wright and Brian Bilston. Maggie shared her poem No-one Wins which is part of the Peace and Reconciliation Poetry Trail in Crawley. Caroline shared her new children’s book in verse and a reminder that we are always happy for poets to sell their books at our meetings – this is a platform for poetry in written as well as spoken form. Competition was tight, but Kathryn was our ‘top truffler’ on the night.

The Foraging Pigs are back at the end of March for another night of open mic shenanigans. See you there.
